MSAMA New GME Program Administrator Training Program
The Massachusetts Society of Academic Medical Administrators presents the New Program Administrator Training course dedicated to providing an interactive and comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of coordinating a GME training program. Upon completion of the five-week course, participants will have; an in-depth understanding of program administrator responsibilities, GME and ACGME requirements, systems, and common best practices; information and templates to master the day-to-day program coordination; best practices for using commonly used applications; tools to continue professional development initiatives and mentoring relationship with experienced GME program administrators. This course is intended for program administrators with less than one year experience, but all are welcome to join.
The information provided in each session and the shared best practices will allow the coordinators to meet the specific objectives outlined below.
Define the graduate medical education lifecycle, required systems and accreditation responsibilities.
Apply what is learned from each session to their positions throughout the academic year.
Demonstrate ability to interpret program requirements and navigate how program coordinators support compliance.
Manage accredited and non-accredited GME programs.
Connect with other administrators to allow for networking opportunities.
Meet The Course Directors
Julie is the Administrative Director of GME at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Prior to this position she was a program administrator in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Julie brings over 20 years of healthcare experience and 13 years dedicated to GME.
Kaytlyn is the Education Manager in the GME office at Boston Children’s Hospital. Previously, she held a position at Children’s for three years as the fellowship coordinator. Kaytlyn brings a combined 6 years of experience in GME and has spoken nationally regarding mentorship and professional development for program coordinators.
This 5 week, virtual course will be held Spring 2022!
Each week we will explore different area of GME program coordination providing participants with all the tools need to be successful in their GME program administrator role.
Week 1: Intro to GME Part 1 starts with the basics such as GME lifecycle, essential functions of those in GME administration, GME lingo and time management
Week 2: Intro to GME Part 2 goes into the meat of ACGME accreditation.
Week 3: Recruitment, On-Boarding and Graduation provides everything you need to know from systems used to best practices on how to complete some of the most important aspects of program administration
Week 4: Schedules and Evaluations reviews the nitty-gritty details of keeping your program running to meet the requirements discussed in the first two weeks.
Week 5: Professional Development is integral in the life of a program administrator to ensure you are able to grow your career and network.
